Sebelum ini karya Sasterawan Negara, Datuk A. Samad Said iaitu ‘Sungai Mengalir Lesu’ dan ‘Salina’ pernah diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Mandarin pada 1985.
Lebih menarik semua buku itu telah diterjemahkan ke bahasa Mandarin dan diterbitkan dengan kerjasama erat antara Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka dan Guangxi Normal University Press. “Kementerian akan terus menjalinkan kerjasama seperti ini dalam usaha berterusan untuk memartabatkan karya-karya penting Sasterawan Negara,” katanya kepada Utusan Malaysia.
Versi bahasa Mandarin diterbitkan oleh Lujiang Publishing House dan diterjemahkan oleh Libby Zeng seorang penterjemah yang berpengalaman luas dalam penterjemahan bahasa Inggeris-Mandarin.
