It is understood that the woman, who was in her early 20s, was visiting the tourist attraction with three of her friends when she fell.The Irish Coast Guard's marine rescue centre on Valentia Island in Co Kerry was contacted at 1.20pm and co-ordinated a search operation.
A spokesperson confirmed that the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter Rescue 115 was alerted to the incident at 1.23pm. When the rescue helicopter located the deceased woman, the spokesperson said that it could not access the location safely.Members of the Doolin Coast Guard as well as gardaí and emergency services also attended the scene.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that"gardaí and emergency services conducted an operation following reports of an incident at the Cliffs Moher this afternoon". "The body of a woman, aged in her early 20s, was removed from the water by emergency services," the spokesperson added.
