On Sunday, fire damage to equipment at the plant affected some 3,500 residents served by the Allow Regional Water Supply Scheme.
This has resulted in disruptions to water supplies in the Freemount, Milford, Liscarroll, Dromina areas of north Cork. In a statement issued today, Irish Water said 8 tankers are currently transporting water to fill 7 reservoirs and some 150 km of pipeline served by the scheme.Work is continuing to restore normal production at the plant. It is hoped the testing of all equipment will be completed by tomorrow and staff can begin the process of introducing water into the system.
Because of the size of the scheme, Mr Smyth said it is likely to take a number of days for the system to be back up and running at full capacity.
