Pence disembarked Air Force Two to meet the soldiers, who are on their way to Iraq, while they were also refuelling at the airport. “I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to get off Air Force Two and tell you how grateful we are to each and every one of you and your families that are going to keep the home fires burning during this deployment. “We’re proud of you. Grateful for you. I know if your commander chief was standing here he would say the very same thing,” Pence said. The vice president is returning to the US from Italy where he had a private audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican yesterday. Pence last visited Ireland in September when he faced criticism over his decision to stay in Donald Trump’s Doonbeg resort as hotel location was some 290km from his main official engagements. The decision, which Pence said was the suggestion of Trump, prompted an investigation by the House Oversight Committee in the US. Source: The Hill/YouTube Pence made headlines earlier in the week after a video, which was circulating widely on social media, showed Prince Charles snubbing him at a Holocaust memorial ceremony in Jerusalem on Thursday. Charles, 71, is seen chatting with various dignitaries, he then approaches Pence, briefly looks at him, but moves on without shaking the US vice president’s hand and greets Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Buckingham Palace dismissed suggestions that Charles deliberately ignored Pence, saying the two had a “warm and friendly chat” before event. - With reporting by AFP Read more: TheJournal.ie

Nice of Pence to drop into their airbase in Ireland, I think think strategically it is the most westerly US base in Europe! nothingtoseehere Wow. The US vice president meets a few Troops, gives their morale a small boost in what is probably a difficult personal time for them and the liberal media here use it as a opportunity to create more clicks and generally create a small bit of outrage.

51st state Which begs the question, where were they enroute to/from? And what was the purpose of the photoshoot? This is a disgrace to the integrity of Ireland's neutrality that Americans soldiers are using irish airport for pictures with there vice president while enroute to fight wars Will he be Renditioned as well?

Use of Shannon, or any Irish territory, for the purposes of foreign military operations should be denied. We must demonstrate that we value neutrality and peace building. GE2020 candidates and parties should be clear on their policy related to this. War mongering from Shannon. Leo and his rollover gov .

Shannon should not be a stopover, staging post or showplace for US military. Particularly unacceptable to have a photoop with troops going to Iraq after that country has asked US to withdraw. Allowing this to happen damages Irelands global rep/role in peacebuilding & disarmament Yeah, fuck everything about this.

US Vice President vists Shannon AirportThe American troops are on their way to Iraq and were also in Shannon for a refuelling stop You mean the American terrorists But I thought this was neutral Ireland🤔 Regardless of the idiotic pantomime that they don't carry weapons, Shannon is being used as a platform for US military propaganda, which will help result in countless deaths. Troops out of Shannon NOW.

Who sanctioned this for a foreign Vice President to me foreign troops on Irish soil. 😡😡
