Between January and July this year 4,404 arrivals were refused ‘leave to land’, meaning they were initially prevented from travelling through immigration

Up until the start of October, 88 per cent of the 5,662 arrivals at Dublin Airport who were refused leave to land then claimed asylum.

The figures, which were released under Freedom of Information rules, are likely an underestimation as they do not include minors under the age of 16.“In this instance, ‘unknown’ references the point of departure rather than the nationality of the person concerned,” a Department of Justice spokeswoman said in response to queries. “This can arise, for example, where a person does not produce travel documents to the Border Management Unit and may not say where they have travelled from.

In October, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said investigations had shown “a proportion” of undocumented people arriving in Ireland already had refugee status in another EU member state.

We may not know their name or place of origin BUT what we do know is they are criminals... It is a crime to destroy legal documents such as passports .. they had to board with passports ergo they destroyed them

This is not acceptable, given the length of time this is happening there should be a process for interviewing them. You know what plane they arrived on, so we have an origin and why are they allowed board a plane without documents?

Why were they allowed entry ? No other country allows people to enter without passports.

The lifeboat will capsize taking down ALL aboard.

Government and msm media experts Irish people to accept this, and call them racist and far right if we ask any questions.

The government is at war with the people of Ireland. Mass immigration is one of their strongest weapons which they wield mercilessly, while shrieking slurs at the very people they attack, who are also the very people they serve. Politicians have forgotten to fear their people.

Head to ireland its a soft spot....

Will be hard to send them back so! Am I meant to feel more sorry for them because they don't know where they came from or how they got here. So hard to get it right these days..isn't it just.

Off to Rwanda, simple as that. simoncoveney

How come only now your mentioning this. this is old news and as usual a news outlet late to the party. Should be ashamed to call ur rag irish

Fly to oz and dump your docs before you get there. Let us know what happens. I doubt you would even get to say your looking for asylum status. Is oz immigration racist and far right? Call in the ambassador and give him a piece of your mind. Let us know what they say. Please.

'Consulting with local communities' is really going to fix this problem

Absolute bullshit, I can’t fly into Ireland without posting a flight plan and submitting a GAR form with all passengers details 24hrs in advance. How can this be possible?

Imagine not being able to manage your borders....On an island

Leave them sitting airside until they remember. I doubt it would take too long

They must have beamed into the airport. Anyone that shows up in the airport with no documents or claiming to not know where they came from should held in a detention centre at the airport till they can verify who they are, if not then back on a plane to their original departure

Why don’t they try that in the US They’d be turned back immediately! Not like this bloody country which allows every Tom dick and harry in !!!

They must know where the planes came from, liars then.

Isn’t it a mystery how passports and other relevant documents just disappear in mid air…..who’s flying them in…Paul Daniels Airlines?

UFO?

Sounds like an invasion

DublinAirport seems the IT are calling you useless as you can’t figure out what country a person came from when they get off a plane from that same country.

This government is failing in its most basic function to protect the borders and people of the state. They are breaking the law by ignoring the Dublin agreement that asylum should be claimed in the first safe country. The country is In dangerous hands.

Could they not find out what airport they fly in from Do they need Sherlock to crack the case? Gombeens run this country and have had for a hundred years. Election now.

Clown country

Shouldnt be allowed into the country full stop

Presumably they had a passport and appropriate documentation at point of departure. Therefore, between boarding the aircraft and reaching the arrival hall, it's a complete mystery what would be in the bins there!

Next up in bonkers Ireland - teachers told to accept 'Sir, the dog ate my homework, I swear!' as a valid excuse.

Straight back on a plane to the airports they departed from.

They don't know where the flights come from? It's written on the bloody noticeboards.

This doesn’t include the ones where we know there from, who are seeking asylum here from countries which are not war torn, Georgia for example. Nor does it include individuals travelling here on false passport and documentation well aware that the authorities are unable to check

Then they should have been put on a plane and sent back to the country they came from. I am living in the twlight zone? It’s apparent these 1,300 do not want the authorities to know where they are from, this is deception, they are obviously of no use to this country, deport simpl

So they don't know what flight they literally just got off?

Open borders plantation 2.0

...& now MSM is campaigning to make it impolite to ask 'where are you from?' ..although gardaí stopped you, not so long ago, to ask you that, when you travelled outside a 2km designated zone.. & threatened you with prosecution?🤔 (Excepting you were part of golfgate party)

MichealMartinTD LeoVaradkar rodericogorman And yet it makes a blind bit of difference Please take action Look at what is really happening Think of Ireland in next 30 years Please stop the entrenchment in government policy. It's ok to change as situation changes

I can’t trough with 600 smokes ffs and always say you coming from the canaries 😂😂

Walking the streets looking for a good time

Send them back.

Should be put straight back on the plane - if this was done it would be stopped instantly

Sure what could go wrong 🤡

Your neutral, 'there's-nothing-can-be-done' tone is glaringly obvious*. The Irish Times is on the wrong side of this issue. *The Irish Times can always find weasel words to smear any stance that it wants to paint in a poor light.

Try asking what flight they were on?

War criminals murders and rapists. Prove me wrong

The government is failing it is most basic of duties in not controlling the country's borders.

Uknown, lol, you'd swear it was Ferdinand Magellan scratching his head, looking at a map.

So the immigration officer certainly didn't know where the plane bringing the man came from. I see.

Why is our government paying people to come from Sudan Libya Georgia Kazakhstan Uzbekistan and pretending to be asylum seekers or refugees with the promise of double dole payments for each man woman child. MM wants 5 Million refugees in Ireland by 2030.

A massive scam that is undermining confidence in the law and needs to be addressed by government.

“When those in the unknown category were excluded, Germany is the most common point of departure for people refused leave to land,” Why so many from Germany?

Forget about locals but how would you feel sharing accomodation under the care of the state, having fled somewhere for your life and then knowing people in your group have deliberately hid something about their identity. Very unsettling for families.

Please Irish Times editorially recognise this for the obvious fraud it is. It’s undermining all public support for genuine refugees too. Give the govt permission to tackle asylum fraud. Otherwise there will be a major backlash, as is already rumbling

🤡

WHO IS VETTING THESE PEOPLE ?

Can someone with brains cells in Dublin Airport immigration not connect which flights these illegal immigrants came from ? It's not like Dublin Airport is Heathrow. If they are coming from within the EU Schengen area surely there is passport scanning before boarding. eastwall

PUTION HAS TO DIE .

Initially they weren't deemed fit to land, now they're in, no wonder there's concern

A massive scam on the taxpayer which is breeding huge resentment. Someone in government needs to cop themselves on.

Should have all been sent back on the same flight they arrived.

And then they muttered 'asylum' and they went through the gold door.

Ironic that it's the King of the open-borders' fanatics, Conor Gallagher, who's reporting this. If he had his way, Dublin Airport would just have a set of swing doors, like a Western saloon. You land and away you go. 🙄

20 times that weren't refused. All criminals.

Initially the operative word there
