The passenger in a car which was being pursued by gardai and was later involved in a fatal crash in Co Meath made a 999 call to gardai warning that the driver would crash unless gardai stopped following the vehicle, Trim Circuit Court heard today.
The accused man, who is defending himself, has also pleaded not guilty to two charges of endangerment, 12 charges of dangerous driving and a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant on the same date. Garda Dessie McGarry told prosecuting counsel Carl Hanahoe BL he followed in a marked Regional Support Unit Audi A7 as the Colt sped through Drogheda, Donore, Plattin and Duleek breaking a succession of red lights, weaving from side to side and narrowly missing oncoming vehicles, some of which were forced into the hard shoulder.
He added: "We were approximately 300m behind and we deactivated our flashing lights and sirens to try an de-escalate the situation."
