The 42-year-old was subsequently shot dead outside his home in Griffeen Glen Park in Lucan two months later on November 2019. All three men were remanded in custody today.
Darren Henderson, 30, from Cleggan Avenue in Ballyfermot, Dublin, Cailean Crawford, 24, from Clifden Terrace, Ballyfermot, and Charles McClean, 32, from of St Mark's Grove, Clondalkin were brought to Blanchardstown District Court by detectives investigating the attempt on the life of Wayne Whelan in September 2019.
The three were each charged with two offences, the attempted murder of Wayne Whelan and committing arson of a '07-reg Ford Focus which was allegedly set on fire at the Old Bog Road in Kilcock, Co Kildare on 4 September 2019.The court heard that Darren Henderson and Cailean Crawford both worked as couriers, earning €450 a week while Charles McClean was unemployed.
Judge Alan Mitchell granted them free legal aid but said statements of means must be provided and remanded the men in custody. The District Court cannot grant bail on charges of attempted murder.
