Darach Ó Séaghdha asks why we elect so many múinteoirí to the Oireachtas.

Darach Ó Séaghdha Writer SOME INTERNATIONAL COMMENTATORS who have been watching our recent elections have remarked that Irish politics in general and elections, in particular, are a little bit different to their systems.

But there is a big difference which is ignored by international media but is frequently commented on within Ireland. Does the disproportionately high amount of journalists found in senior roles in the British Conservative party reflect the esteem in which that job is held or that party’s relationship with certain newspapers?

Rather than reflecting the political muscle of the educational sector, most TDs from teacher backgrounds are veterans of student union politics who have resolved to become elected representatives at the early opportunity. And while professions like healthcare, accountancy, engineering and law will often give a graduate opportunities overseas where they might lose touch with their local cumann and miss out on meetings critical for candidate selection, this has not historically been the case with teaching .

They continue on from starting at 9amand finishing at 230pm or 4pm with hour breaks. Monday to Friday, off mid terms, Christmas and Summer 😉 only difference is bad teachers become politicians.

Teachers...politics and the GAA. Many teachers have an innate interest in history and current affairs plus sport. Not a requirement...it's just so. Perhaps working with families and seeing what matters to people gives one an interest in representing same.

It’s great how recent events have changed Twitter into a positive, supportive forum 🥺 bekind

Job for life, get elected and they keep a post open for you. That's why there's so many temp positions with no job security while TD's have the security of two jobs, two pensions, rental properties and 50k expenses per annum no questions asked.

Perhaps it’s because teachers see the problems of society reflected in the classroom, perhaps it’s because the role requires a positive attitude to public service and care. It’s very frustrating how many take every opportunity to discredit teacher value.

'Flicker' short film director explores Irish masculinity VMDIFF20 Because feminism has tipped the scale too much in favour of women. Men are systematically discriminated against in Ireland on a daily basis particularly young white men Because they wank too much, get too much stimulation from their phones and Playstations. Eat shitty processed foods and don't engage in enough physical competition. These are a few things that deplete male testosterone. Probably as a result of dating irish women.
