The Dubliner, appointed COO of London-based carbon data firm Sylvera, says there is a commercial and moral imperative in climate investment

Climate Finance ‘The best time to invest is now’ - Sylvera COO Adrienne Gormley on net-zero targets

The firm – which has raised over $96 million from investors such as Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, Insight Partners, LocalGlobe and Salesforce Ventures since its launch in 2020 – provides businesses and government bodies with data assessing the carbon impact of climate projects. “I've been part of growing and scaling customer strategies to really think about making big changes that are ultimately very positive, but they feel really difficult,” she said.

There is a spectrum, she said. Some companies are relatively sophisticated; some are less sure. The bulk of businesses occupy the middle space of knowing they will have to do something, but waiting to see what everyone else does first. “But I'm digging into the business right now and getting to know how it works – and exactly where and how we can work with customers in different areas and different jurisdictions.”

“If you've got 10 million or 100 million to invest, now is the best time for pricing that. When the market starts to shift and demand soars, prices will go up.Shrewdness in investment will be at the fore of Gormley’s thoughts in her new role. After speaking to the Business Post, she planned to travel to New York to meet the Sylvera team there, and to take the first steps into discussing expansion.
