During routine patrols at around 4pm in Rathkeale, gardaí were alerted to activity at the rear of a former pub.When gardaí entered the 'shebeen' a number of people were found inside, playing cards with two fires lit. A large amount of alcohol was also discovered.An investigation is under way into the use of an unlicensed premises for alcohol consumption and breaches of Covid-19 public health regulations.
Gardaí took details of all those present and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. They have appealed to anyone with information on the operation of the 'shebeen' to contact Newcastlewest Garda Station on 069 20048 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
The shebeen discovered in a garden shed last week looked more like a pub.
