Department of Health in Northern Ireland has reported 3,576 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 48 hours with a further 26 deaths

The Chair of the National Public Health Emergency Team Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group has said a population-wide response is needed to help prevent the further spread of Covid-19 as all the indicators show Ireland is "in a very significant surge".

Prof Nolan has said that up to 6,000 cases a day could be seen at a peak of the surge, adding "we need to prepare for worrying numbers in the days ahead". He said the focus needs to be on preventing the variant spreading further, and on avoiding bringing in new variants from abroad and said the South African variant has not been found in Ireland.

Prof Nolan said the aim is to try and get the R number below 1 and then review the situation to plan a strategy "out of the position we are in". Further testing this week of #SARSCoV2 samples dating from #December 23rd to 29th has detected 9 additional #UKvariant cases in #Ireland. This brings the total number of cases identified @nvrlucdireland to 16 1/2 https://t.co/gBEy0VjXO7

The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population in Ireland has increased from 87 at the beginning of December to 321.3 by the end of the month.

It’s hard to know what to believe anymore with all the spin, scare mongering, threats, lies and voices in the room! The government are changing their mind daily which doesn’t help confidence in those running and managing the country. Their moment of truth may be coming ...

Utterly terrifying I see dead people. Lock Me down Mr chairman I beg

It will be very interesting to see if these increased numbers translate to pro rata hospitalisation and death. If not the survival rate for this “deadly virus” will be on a par of going for a drive.

581 of 4.9 Million in hospital WITH Covid-19. What % of 581 in hospital for other reasons & tested positive using too high CTs? (IRL uses 40-45) Positive PCR Tests do not equal 'cases' January 2020 621 on hospital trolleys January 2021 561 spare beds

how many people have been vaccinated so far? Have not seen your reporting on this.

That’s class, close the schools.

People already showed poor restriction adherence, the Government's refusal in late 2020 to heed NPHET advice created an atmosphere where people were even more relaxed about restrictions. This was all preventable. All of it. People, and especially the Government, should be ashamed

We've got this everyone! stayhome WearAMask

Well their predictions have never been wrong

6,000 positive tests ,asymptomatic or sick people?

Scary, scary stuff!

We lost this through being entitled - Now we must stand together and fight this so our hospitals can do their jobs rather than turn people away and are dead will not jump beyond an extra 1000. Our unity, solidarity and sacrifice is necessary.

An island with two separate approaches to this pandemic. The fuck do people expect.

So schools will reopen on January 11th while we are reporting 6000 cases a day.!
