Spain holiday tragedy as Irish dad dies in Magaluf after taking ill

Tributes have been paid to Waterford physiotherapist Michael Grant who took ill and died on Monday while on a holiday in Majorca in Spain. A death notice on Rip.ie says that Mr Grant of Pinewood Avenue, Hillview in Waterford “died suddenly whilst on holiday with family and friends.”

Michael was an integral part of our community, and his absence will be profoundly felt. He was not just a coach but a mentor and a friend to all the children and adult members at St Joseph’s.

"We also want to acknowledge the grief and shock that our own children and members are experiencing. Michael was a significant part of their lives, and his loss is deeply personal to each of us. In the coming days, we will share more information regarding any plans to honor Michael’s memory. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through this challenging period.

“He was instrumental in establishing St Josep’s back into kids football after many years without underage teams. Always very friendly with a big smile on his face he always had different ideas and looking for ways to help the club. A massive loss for his family and his club." "Michael was also a proud Mount Sion man as well and no doubt put in plenty of great work with that club also. Being such a popular figure in the county his loss will be felt deeply in the local football and GAA scene but that loss will pale in significance to the loss his family and close friends will be feeling and all our thoughts are with them today. "
