Sinn Féin has claimed that the Government has been"bounced" into delaying hikes to road tolls, after Cabinet agreed to defer the planned rise in tolls on motorways for six months until 1 July.It is understood deferring the increase will cost in the region of €12.5m, which is being absorbed by the State.
The planned increase would have meant a 10c hike on most tolls, 20c on the M50 and 30c on the M50 for motorists without tags. "The Government needs to recognise we are living in a cost-of-living crisis, and workers and businesses are struggling with transport costs," he said. The Public-Private Partnerships used on roads"are a relic of the Fianna Fáil cowboy era of poor planning", he said.
"But for today it's very welcome news and that the Government had a refresh and looked at it wisely."The Oireachtas Transport Committee is due to hear from representatives of Transport Infrastructure Ireland later today. Separately, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan will look for approval from Cabinet today for Iarnród Éireann to order 90 new battery-electric train carriages before Christmas.
Did you really think they were doing us any favours with the COL handouts announced at the budget? Give with one hand take with the other.
SF have lost all credibility, imo.
SF and the virago, are very much on the back foot.
This could be a pyrrhic victory. What has been given or promised to Ryan to screw us further down the line. This fool is surrounded by so many blood sucking advisors that have tunnel vision that we are sure to pay some way or the other. 80mill to COP they weren’t asked for.
Sf is doing a lot of claiming this past two days Ahem
Deferred, so it's still going ahead, just pushed down the road a bit.
And what actually happened? What's the whole story?
But yet that shower would have something else to say if it wasn’t delayed.
