Jailed teacher Enoch Burke ’s family has urged Taoiseach Simon Harris to “send the guards” to their home following an incident in Mayo last weekend.
The family attempted to ask them about Mr Burke, who remains in prison after a dispute following his refusal to purge his contempt. He was fired from Wilson’s Hospital School last year over his refusal to refer to a transgender student by a new name and pronouns. Mr Burke’s family shared footage they had filmed in Castlebar on Sunday on social media website X. They did not share any video from their interaction with Mr Harris in Westport. On the Westport canvass, Mr Harris stumbled while walking up the street.
In the video, Mr Burke’s mother Martina raised objections to her daughter being asked to leave a coffee shop in Castlebar where the Fine Gael delegation was having its launch. The Irish Mirror was also asked to leave the café as it was a “private” event.
