Mary Kennedy ’s home has a warm and welcoming energy. The smell of a freshly baked lemon drizzle cake fills the kitchen, a rather sophisticated request from her grandson Paddy for his fifth birthday.
Artwork and Polaroid images by her beloved grandchildren are proudly displayed, while toys scatter the floor — evidence of a busy Easter weekend with the family. , Mary shares her new abode, talks about her non-negotiables when moving, and how her interior style has evolved. "It's just been a joy. It's open plan, it's bright, it's new. It’s over a year now since I first moved in. I was downsizing because my house ended up being too big. It was a big decision to make, but there were a few things I insisted on having in the new house; one was a south facing garden, and I had to have four bedrooms because my daughter is living in Limerick and whey they come up they need somewhere to stay.
"It's also in the same parish, so I still have the same friends and some new friends which was really important. Same church, same supermarkets, same community centre, all of those things are still the same which is really, really nice. I don't know if I could have left the area. You kind of have your roots.
