Budget 2020 has seen a cut in funding for new school buildings and other educational facilities for the first time in seven years

Budget 2020 has seen a cut in funding for new school buildings and other educational facilities for the first time in seven years.

This included pressures caused by demographics, and to ensure that 1,300 new places for students with special needs were protected. The Minister said this year's reduction would not in any way affect school building plans for next year. However, funding to build new school buildings and extend others will be further reduced, because an unknown proportion of this €670m will be spent fixing structural defects discovered in more than 40 school buildings built by Western Building Systems.
