The segment was broadcast on the New Year's Eve special and showed 'God' being led away by Gardai

RTE has apologised after a New Year's Eve sketch about God was condemned by the Catholic Church and received over 600 complaints.

In a statement this afternoon, the national broadcaster said: "RTÉ recognises that matters which can cause offence naturally differ from person to person, within comedy and satire in particular. "The formal complaints received by RTÉ are being entered into our complaints system and will be responded to in accordance with the relevant statutory process."

Ex-broadcaster Aengus Mac Grianna tells viewers: “In another shocking revelation this year, God became the latest figure to be implicated in ongoing sexual harrassment scandals.

Someone should remind the church that there's no such thing as bad publicity... well actually...

Well there was nothing they could do about Father Ted because the Irish didn't own Father Ted it was made by Channel 4. And RTE was commended and celebrated for turning down such a hot mess.

I'm sure God thought it was hilarious 😂🤣😂 Does the Catholic Church still run the Irish government! They seem to have short memories on their 'Past' Jesus Christ himself would have laughed at god been arrested! How about The Father Ted! No Catholic church invaders here! Racists

And well they might it’s a pity they aren’t showing the people the real news ! Why didn’t they report that the Garda shot a criminal that was out on bail for a hammer attack or why do we have to see and hear news on social media of the gangs assaulting people in the name of same
