Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler finally got off the emotional rollercoaster of the US PGA after a crazy week for the top two players in the world.
McIlroy won his fourth and last Major here in August 2014 and claimed the “stars are aligning” after back-to-back wins on his return to Kentucky. He started with rounds of 66 and 71 and was only three shots off the lead during the third round before closing with 68 and 67. In a week of super-low scoring here - Xander Schauffele and Shane Lowry both shots 62 - he finished on 12-under par.
Scheffler had also won his last event - the RBC Heritage - and arrived here last Monday to play his first tournament since the birth of Bennett on May 8.
