Protesters gather outside UHL as health minister makes crisis visit

A protest was held outside of University Hospital Limerick on Thursday morning as the Minister for Health and head of HSE made a crisis visit.

READ MORE: Investigation launched into death of second 16-year old girl at overcrowded University Hospital Limerick Although it is understood that the health minister made an unexpected stop at the hospital on Wednesday evening, on Thursday morning Mr Donnelly returned to meet with hospital management, including Mr Gloster- with protesters gathering ahead of the visit.

While the protesters did not expect either the health minister or HSE head to speak to the group which had assembled, it is hoped that Stephen Donnelly saw the “congestion” in the hospital. The protest outside of UHL was the latest from a string by the Mid-West Hospital campaign, which will protest again next Saturday to mark 15 years since a reconfiguration plan shut the emergency departments in Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s Hospital.
