The daughter of Martin Abbott, a patient who lost his life at University Hospital Limerick , has expressed her thoughts over the circumstances surrounding her father's death.
Martin Abbott's daughter, Anne Marie, spoke on RTÉ’s Drivetime about her father and described him as "a very strong man, an absolute gentleman in every sense of the word.""But for him to have to die with no dignity is something that I don't know if I'll ever get over." "It was there at 6am and we got a phone call from my mother just stating that the guards were at the door, that UL Hospital was trying to contact us.""I couldn't believe what I was hearing," she said.
While acknowledging the hospital's subsequent apology for the oversight, she emphasised the critical need for prompt and effective communication in such delicate situations.
