A former Ireland Under-21 international had to rely on donations from fans, fellow footballers and managers to pay for ACL surgery - after his 13-year spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle came to an end while he was waiting for his operation.
The Inchicore-born winger was waiting for surgery when he said he received confirmation of his departure from the club, which was left in turmoil by relegation from the Scottish Championship at the end of last season. “I still would have had three months of wages to come in and I would have got rehab at the club, because I was under contract.”
He is holding a raffle for a rare Scotland jersey - the shirt that he would have worn at Euro 1992 if he wasn’t injured in the build-up to the tournament. “Now, we want to help just that little bit more for him and his family in terms of rehabilitation costs in general. The strip I have is from when Scotland qualified for the European Championships in Sweden in 1992.
