Results of ASTI ballot for industrial action over staff safety due at end of week

She said this was “reassuring” and added that there has been “considerable buy-in in terms of implementing public health guidelines and keeping schools a safe environment for our students”.

Meanwhile, the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland is due to receive the results of a ballot for industrial action over concerns it has over the safety of staff towards the end of this week. The ASTI has raised concerns over testing and tracing turnaround times and “inconsistencies” over the definition of close contacts in schools.

The union said schools are facing staff shortages while teachers are required to self-isolate while awaiting Covid-19 test results. In some cases, schools were missing up to 10 teachers who were absent while waiting for test results, ASTI presidentThe contract tracing system in schools needed to be much faster, as there are current delays of up to a week for close contacts of positive cases to be identified in some cases, she said.

Can teachers clarify if theyv been told to turn off tracker as there are reports of this been the case ,new updated tracker now has a pause function ,why ,thought the idea was to alert you of positive cases in every setting .

An extra week on midterm would be a good thing and only bring +ve results - just shorten the summer break by 1 week to compensate. The lack of crowds at school gates can only help lower cases faster. 👍

Doesn’t matter what they advise. Government will not close schools.

Here’s the second instalment of my dripfeed news predictions

Leave the kids alone!

Great news

If student or staff develops symptoms on a Monday contact tracing goes back 48 hours-no close contacts in school, yet incubation period of the illness is up to 14 days!?

HSE don’t trace back far enough. If a kid/teacher comes back positive, the whole class should be tested, regardless of HSE’s last established contact. Also stop the stigma/taboo associated with Covid: communicate the results to the whole school community to establish trust!

This is one of the core reason why unions do not trust the numbers! All such cases should be incorporated into positivity rates in school. No justification provided for this exclusion! Would you like to ask why this is the case? ZaraKing roinnslainte HSELive

Definition of close contact by HSELive is narrow and variable. Some people who were not deemed close contact subsequently tested via GP & positive. Such +ve cases are not included in school numbers so conclusion is that Dr. Burns’ analysis is flawed & misleading. roinnslainte

While their lying about cases in schools is widely anticipated

He says it is still NPHET's position that the risks associated with international travel are 'very, very high' Look around you. Literally nobody is passing any heed on this lockdown. Dublin suburbs as busy as I’ve see. Them all year. Destroying people’s businesses & putting them into financial ruin for nothing. ‘Very very high’ as in,up in the sky in a plane? Did he mean that joke? 🙄 Does that sound like kick the can down the road....?

State will not appeal refusal to extradite Ian BaileyThe state will not appeal a High Court judgment made earlier this month that rejected the extradition of Ian Bailey to France. Hmm maybe its time to stop extradition of Irish nationals to Britain as well. Since their system is one of the most corrupt in Europe! Good. Hopefully no more taxpayer money will wasted on this farce. Have evidence, extradite him and prosecute him. No evidence? Drop it. Move on
