Ask Brian: Regular communication between home and school is more important than ever

With the best of intentions, all of the resources that are being shared – website links, apps, games, books – can add to the sense of feeling overwhelmed. Where do you start? And if you hear on the grapevine that the school down the road is doing all of this, where does that leave your children?

One thing you can be sure of is some of the questions you have have been answered by parents or teachers or students somewhere else.and the Professional Development Service for Teachers has launched a webinar series – Learning For All – to share the best of what is happening out there. It also offers guidance and support for the real challenges faced by school communities as they seek to support learning over distance. In effect, this series is creating a space for everybody to connect to share learning.

In the meantime, remember that we will come through this. The schools will re-open. It is really important that we all support and sustain ourselves as people, day by day, so that we can be ready to embrace the opportunities for further learning that will emerge at that point. As John O’Donohue reminds us – “where you are understood, you are at home”. Take this time to try to enjoy being at home, to come to a deeper understanding of all that matters. Learning and knowledge come in many different forms, and we have been given an opportunity to learn about how we learn, as individuals and as a society. Let’s grasp that opportunity with an open heart.

You'll be a hero among children.

Start a petition to get homework scrapped unless it's a special assignment.

Cry me a river ...

Stop virtue signalling and courting fake empathy.

Accept that you just have stupid / lazy kids and get on with your life.

Children should not have homework, this is not a priority at all!

I’m a teacher using the Seesaw app. Work assigned for the week divided into 5 day. Nothing the kids haven’t done already. Going well for the most part. Parents please don’t panic!!

Close the door to the room they are in. Get on with your day and have a large cup of cop on dear

It's not homework, it's school work. It's suggested, not mandatory, and it is meant to go some way to replace a 9-2 day in, obviously less than ideal circumstances. Do what you can, but do not call it homework.

Just take a decision & stop. Do other more enjoyable things with them.

Just do what you can. Homework is not the priority right now, minding yourselves is. Any teacher would advise this. When you feel that you've done enough, you've done enough. Find the right balance. Lower expectations of yourself and others at this time. Go gently. Take care.

Dog ate my homework🤔

Their are some fantastic sites on home schooling on Youtube might help

Have a drink and a bubble bath. 😉

They’ve a while to go through it. Best not try do it all on day 1

Ummm don’t do it?
