“It wasn’t about money for Jordie, he could’ve earned a lot more money in Japan but he wants to be in a really competitive competition testing himself week in, week out against the best players sin the world that are up there.”

Hurricanes Chief Executive Avan Lee has claimed that money wasn't a motivating factor for Jordie Barrett, who will move to Leinster at the end of 2024.

The signing has sent shockwaves through the rugby community in Ireland and around the World, as RG Snyman is also due to join Leinster this Summer when his time at Munster comes to an end. While many fellow All-Blacks now ply their trade in Japan, Barrett - who spent 15 months as a child living in County Meath with his family - has opted to return to Ireland to play at a high level for what Lee claims will be a lower wage to what he would have earned in Japan.

“I think you’ve got to admire that because he could’ve taken a big contract in Japan but he wants to test himself and he wants to play European rugby, so I say good on him.
