Minister for Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton has he would like to introduce a nationwide ban on single use plastics and he is considering applying fees to manufacturers who wrap supermarket products in non-recyclable plastics.
As for non-recyclable plastics, Mr Bruton would also like to end their use but is considering introducing fees for food packaging in supermarkets first. Meanwhile, the co-ordinator of the organisation for Voice of Concern for the Irish Environment says Ireland needs to "turn off the tap" on plastics and excessive packaging.
She said VOICE has launched a 'loose for less' campaign asking supermarkets to sell loose fruit and vegetables for less than the cost of pre-packaged goods, which tend to be cheaper.
They could start by putting milk into glass bottles again.

Plastic straws usually turns to mush in drinks. I’m disabled & need straws. The increase in plastic straws in use has made me carry plastic straws with me. Sure, reusable straws exist but if I get multiple drinks in a day, it means putting an already dirty straw into my drinks
This crowd will have us eventually drinking ditch water using a leaf
I don't believe RichardbrutonTD can do anything that seems so positive.
Start with bottled water all in plastic bottles a disgrace
The sooner the better!! And the responsibility/cost needs to be on business who are making the choice to use plastic.
