Image: Sunday Alamba via PA Images MINISTER FOR FOREIGN Affairs Simon Coveney has called on the Nigerian authorities to investigate the excessive use of force against protesters, which have resulted in deaths and serious injuries this week.
The protests first arose to call for an end to the country’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad , which was launched to fight crime but is accused of carrying out unlawful detentions, extortion, torture and extra-judicial killings. The Minister expressed his condolences to those bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured, and “recalled the need to act with maximum restraint”.
simoncoveney any chance you can turn your attention to Belarus?
Any chance you'd call on the gov here to stop traumatising victims of mother and baby homes.
What about calling for investigation of genocide of Palestinian people.
Sure they will all be in their way now, since you rolled out the red carpet. Clown
Poseur politicians love issues like this a bit of impotent finger wagging at some thing overseas whilst turning a blind eye to the scandals at home.
Any chance of a look closer to home? Or do we have to wait until someone dies?
What happens in Nigeria is no business of the Irish government
