he said the State was in a “really difficult situation right now” when it came to finding accommodation for the numbers arriving

Dublin Theatre Festival 2022: In Edna O’Brien’s new play, the epiphany James Joyce sought never comes

The Department of Equality and Integration has been struggling to meet accommodation demand following an increase in asylum seekers coming to Ireland, as well as Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia. Commitments to end the direct provision system, which houses asylum seekers in large residential centres, was “undoubtedly” challenging given the new pressure on accommodation, he said. The Government had opted “not to be seen to interfere with the wider provision of social housing” when it came to housing Ukrainians.

He said it was clear that those coming to Ireland from Ukraine would be in the country “for a longer period of time” as it was not safe for them to return home. “We don’t know how long this war is going to go on for.”

Send them home....we are full

Stop open door policy immigration into Europe . The smaller countries can't handle them .soon the indigenous population's will be replaced by foreign people . The whole of Europe will be destabilised . History And cultures gone ! Why are they allowing this ?

It wouldn't be a case of finding home's for Refugee's if the countries of origin who seem to financially benefit from the present situation we're annually financially held responsible for the increasing amount of benefit tourists over those who genuinely seek refugee status.

Finding accommodation for workers and students seems to be equally difficult

There is 0lenty of space in Leinster house.

no shit!

No shit Sherlock, a pass junior cert economics student would know you can't have mass immigration to a state that has had a housing crisis decades and expect any other outcome. Also it's been extremely difficult for years for the native population to obtain a roof over their head

Then just send them home for godsake....better than just leaving them out on the street

..But O'Gorman's 3 Billion euro nation-destroying vanity project must go on.

Try Ukraine..lots of hotels, houses in peaceful parts of Ukraine (80% of the country)

Because it was never there for Irish citizens and surprised it's difficult for asylum seekers?

Well Stop importing them then .

Plenty of accommodation in Ukraine hotels far away from the fighting were it's safe but you put many of them in substandard conditions in Ireland. And pay out huge taxpayer money for it.

We have had enough

Why did these fools commit to their 'international partners*' to accommodate an unlimited number of Ukrainians? *Note; the international partners are not partners at all. They are just some kind of a chamber of commerce of random nobodies, from parallel jurisdictions.

What about accommodating our own homeless 🤔. We are a tiny country and we need to scale down to match the available resources.

A problem entirely of o'gormans own making. We need to give Garda and CAB powers to prosecute politicans for decisions which lead to poverty and death. He has driven people to living and dying on the streets. There must be legal repercussions for this.

Well stop taking them in and send the surpluses back ya fucking green clown 🤡

It’s really hard no to laugh at this

Keep leaving the immigration gates open and that will solve the accommodation crisis!!

Minister says irelandisfull , there , I fixed it for you.

Plenty cheap accommodation in Rwanda for them

Finding accommodation for students starting college is darn near impossible. Why the hell did ye allow the councils sell their housing stocks ......?

He's some inside information rodericogorman ..... they're not all asylum seekers. In fact the vast majority are not. Stop giving freebies away, deport the bogus ones and you'll stop the inward flow.

Send them back to their own country, they aren’t our problem, too many clowns in government trying to look great to the EU.. imports aren’t wanted nor needed.. shut the door, deport the masses.

stop them entry problem solved we are not the only European country to sacrifice our own needs of Irish citizens should they not seek refugee status in the first part they enter in a EU country

Hardly a surprise.

Then there's those two Fine houses . There's one in Drumcondra the Archbishops house. Then Farmleigh. Oh just remembered The PapaNuncio on the Navan road. Then theres Convents and Monasteries or where they sold off to pay for 🤔

now there's a surprise.. u cant find homes for irish people but your priority is fake asylum seekers

There are 260,000 empty properties in Ireland and some of them owned by NAMA. To mandate a property emergency would be the right thing to do

I heard a whisper that some Holiday homes that Irish people who own them where found to be unsuitable for Ukraine refugees. Or perhaps it was the locations individual cottages out West. 🇮🇪🇪🇺

Then the government should cap the number of Ukrainians allowed into Ireland, impose a visa system and refuse entry if the limits are exceeded

Wonder does his bestie Peter have any spare room?

At least your building houses for the Irish people..oops meant Ukrainian 😂

How do people like him pass the entrance exam to get into secondary school? Really... Supply & Demand. Create an influx of demand, & you're not going to have sufficient supply. It's not rocket science.

Well if it isn't the consequences of your actions

No shit Sherlock...this guy is operating at a different level...tis Army Intelligence he should be in...

Loads of lovely people in malahide that I'm sure he could ask to take some in.

Majority are economic migrants

But they handed the responsibility onto GOAL didn’t they? Surly the govern needs to ensure it’s promises do happen.

It’s hard to get accommodation full stop

Your heart would bleed for him.

Gormless is an inept, globalist shill. 'Asylum' is a scam being exploited by too many, especially the majority from safe countries (including failed applicants from the UK). Time for a repatriation programme.

When it didn’t exist in the first place, it was beyond incredibly difficult 😉

I live in a tiny house. I can invite 4 ppl for dinner at a time. I don't have space for more and much as I would want to, 4 is my max. I would like to invite more but don't have the room. Maybe I should invite Roderic to show a simple explanation as to how this stuff works.

And still no cap on immigrants. Everybody in the whole world from any country is welcome and we will give them accommodation, medical card, 3 meals a day, all bills paid, €40 a week and the promise of a house. Good man Roderic. EndDirectProvision and Deport.

He’s not very good at looking it would appear.

If it is so hard finding places for them Just stop them coming into the country. We have enough.

Try - Kieve

Then simply apply the Dublin convention , Y'know that EU law we signed up to.

What's the obvious solution🤔🤔

But no such trouble finding accommodation for 🇺🇦 Refugees Minister 🤔

He should try talking to Irish taxpayers

You don't say try been irish & hanging on to the promises of dont you know Ireland has its own homeless crisis close the Floodgates fiannafailparty FineGael greenparty_ie

He rang a dinner bell in multiple languages that echoed around North Africa and the Middle East during a housing crisis, what did he expect would happen?

It's more than a little concerning that he seems to think we need to scale up our immigration system 'to be better prepared to respond to large numbers fleeing future crises around the world, similar to the invasion of Ukraine'. How many people does he think we can take in?!

They could stay in ministers’ houses and properties free of charge surely, they made this mess. HMcEntee still hasn’t put up any migrants as promised.

Is he along with his governor finally waking up.

That's what happens when you flood the country Einstein.

Country has a homeless problem of its own

Where there's a will ... ?

Thats sad. Just a suggestion but would halting immigration be worth considering until we get the housing crisis sorted? Just seems a bit cruel to bring people here with no basic amenities for them to live comfortably.

Good!!!!

You could give more to households rather than giving hotels an overinflated amount €400 a month v €4050 for a hotel room

How on earth could that be true

Finding accomodation for homeless Irish is more difficult and more important

Entirely a situation of his own governments making .

Do you have anything for homeless Irish people?

Go back to sleep minister.

Probably should’ve thought of that before he decided to invite the world in. If these politicians had to work jobs where there was any accountability they wouldn’t last 5 minutes

Gosh, that's a shame. Meanwhile.....

Finding accommodation for Citizens is a bit of a task too, Minister....Gormless comment.

No! I don't believe you! Astonishing!

Our 10k homeless don't stand a chance

Auh gosh poor Roderic....and Mary Lou says we can't limit the number of fakeugees so it's only going to get more 'difficult'

Sooon….

Just feck Paddy and Mary to the back of the queue - put the fakeugees first, oh wait.....🥴

What but he promised to house the world - he even advertised it internationally in multiple languages.👇🏻 FAKEUGEES HELENSFELONS IRELANDISFULL

Does rational thinking not work with this government Supply vs Demand We have not got the facilities to take in more refugees. This will not help them nor our already severe need for housing!

Quel surprise.

What did he think was going to happen; sending out messages in Somalian offering own door accommodation to Asylum Seekers within 4 months of arrival? An Egyptian man left the UK to come here, after hearing how easy it is to stay here. It's a complete mess.

why do none of the so called socialists living out in south dublin in nice big houses ever offer to take a few asylum seekers in ? diversity for thee but not for me is the motto of the left-wing in ireland

Stating the obvious

Fintan O’Toole: When will Ireland be honest about how the State pays for itself?Younger, less wealthy people have to pay higher proportion of tax and FG wants to keep it that way If it wasn’t for Multi nationals it wouldn’t be paying for itself. Don’t forget that. The Commission on taxation report was ridiculously political. It did nothing to address the fact that our social insurance and income tax base is too narrow to be a reliable source of funding for universal public services and pensions. Report should go straight in the bin. A wealth tax but also higher local property taxes. FG against wealth tax SF against property tax. France abolished it in 2018 & moved to a property tax. Some have a form of wealth tax but differ between countries & within countries. The national debt is going go be the problem.
