“The estimates of the original scheme... was close to a billion. I believe we will go over that billion” The Taoiseach has said the government will 'do everything' it can to help homeowners affected by Mica, adding the final bill will exceed €1 billion |

Protesters assembled at the Convention Centre, where the Dáil is sitting, before marching to Leinster House.

— Gail Conway June 15, 2021 Estimates vary, but around 4,000 to 5,000 homes are believed to be affected by cracking and crumbling mica blocks. However, they are not covered by the current Government redress scheme to repair and rebuild mica-affected homes. — Tommy Meskill June 15, 2021 The Minister for Justice Heather Humphries said the government is committed to assisting homeowners impacted by defective Mica blocks and pyrite but that details that would increase the amount payable under the existing reparation scheme are not yet finalised.

About a third of people applying to the scheme have been told by engineers that their homes will have to be demolished.

The hypocrisy in this country is ridiculous. Fair play to them getting out to protest. Now wait for the anti-lockdown protest and see how its reported from our unbiased nation broadcaster.

Waiting for Tony Holohan to tweet about these 'disgraceful' scenes or did he not drive by.... EndLockdownsNow Nphet

I wish the protesters well. Question for RTE and CMO - how come this type of people gathering is OK and is not deemed a 'disgrace' unlike the South William street or anti-lockdown protests? No consistency in media or approach

Just apply the same approach as with Pyrite scandal. How is it different? Because it affected families in Leinster?

How about a levy on banks, insurance companies and builders to pay for this? Sure they'll claim the consumer/taxpayer will end up paying anyway but some of it will come from their profits.

Time to stop blaming the victims whose lives and homes have been destroyed. The Irish construction industry and enforcement needs major reform, and needs to be held to account, or this is going to keep happening over and over.

If they say one billion you can double it because of all the skimming that will go on between our corrupt politicians and out corrupt civil service
