Met Eireann warns of thunder and flooding as heavy showers batter Ireland

Met Eireann has warned of a risk of spot flooding as heavy showers hit the northwest on Friday morning.

"Brighter weather will spread from the west later this morning. Sunny spells and scattered showers for the rest of the day.After a clear start, heavy showers will become widespread overnight, with the north being the worst affected area. The heavy rain will continue into the night, however, the national forecaster is unsure whether it will extend to Connacht and Ulster.
