Ireland is set to be lashed by heavy, thundery showers for the rest of this week, with a washout weekend expected.A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Bright and breezy today. Heavy showers over Ulster and Connacht will become more widespread, with a risk of some thundery downpours in places."Fresh and gusty southwest winds will be strong and gusty on parts of the south and west coasts.
A forecaster added: "A wet start to Friday, with some heavy bursts of rain in places. But brighter by afternoon, with sunny spells and occasional showers. Top temperatures just 13 to 16 degrees. "Some bright or short sunny spells on Saturday but showers too, some heavy in northern counties. A spell of heavy and thundery rain will affect Munster and south Leinster in the early afternoon and this will affect all but the northwest by nightfall.
"Very wet in southern and eastern areas overnight with an ongoing risk of spot flooding. More showery elsewhere, with lows of 8 to 11C.
