'Mary Lou McDonald needs to up Sinn Fein's game or else be pipped at the post'

I've spent the last week in Spain lapping up the sun and trying to figure out what exactly is going on in the minds of the people of Ireland.

READ MORE: 'Immigration is tearing Ireland's Government apart - they're making an absolute mess of it'But come General Election day the problem they have is they won't win near enough seats to govern on their own and just like 2020 they will find huge difficulties finding other political partners to secure a Dail majority.

In the eyes of middle Ireland sometimes it is better the devil you know than the one you don't know. Or in other words as former US President Bill Clinton once famously said; " It's the economy stupid." There is no magic wand to solve the housing issue with a growing population. People no longer believe all the Sinn Fein promises on the issue.

The other big issues like immigration can be fixed very quickly in the short term. Only migrants who qualify for a visa should be allowed in. All those coming from so called safe countries claiming international protection should be booted out on the next plane. Much of the Sinn Fein fatigue has been caused by the party saying no to everything and opposing policies for the sake of it even when they are a good idea. The party has so far failed to come up with enough solutions to the issues that concern voters and the people know it.
