Ms Chambers has declared that her home in Castlebar is 273km from Leinster House for the purpose of her travel expenses, putting her in Band 9 and qualifying for a tax-free annual allowance of €27,534.

Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe said that it is a “matter for Lisa Chambers” to “deal with any issues” concerning her mileage claims.

However, Google Maps shows that the shortest practicable route from her home to Leinster House is 238km, which would put her in Band 7. “In my experience, any of my colleagues whom I engage with on this matter are really aware of it being public money and fill in the documentation and meet the standards that are required,” he said.“It's really a matter for her to deal with any issues that are there. Not for me to comment on.”
