Lacklustre Derry demolished by Shamrock Rovers at the Brandywell

No trophies were handed out last night but it felt as though a league title was lost.

Soon it was 2-0, Watts again the supplier, this time with a 30-yard through ball from the halfway line, Greene again the willing recipient, the Derry defence again caught flatfooted. 2-0.Michael Duffy, Derry’s best player, went off injured; pride too was dented, Derry completely losing confidence, Rovers growing in it, going 3-0 ahead when Daniel Kelly lost possession, giving it away to Greene of all people.

We saw that here, Derry getting at Rovers down the flanks, Rovers finding gaps between the lines of their defence and midfield, Burke and Towell profiting from the freedom their manager, Bradley, grants them.
