Just 66 people got their Covid-19 jab from GPs on the first day of Ireland's community vaccination programme. But data from the HSE website shows the third cohort only had 66 doses given out.

Vaccine figures show that from up to Monday, Feb 15, there were 280,581 total doses of Covid-19 vaccines given.Pfizer-BioNtech had 261,968 jabs given out, while AstraZeneca had 15,198 and Moderna has 3,415. Meanwhile, the number of people being admitted to hospital with the virus is stabilising, while the positivity rate is decreasing. But Ireland's Covid-19 death toll surged above 4,000 as new infections continue to be fuelled by the highly transmissible UK variant.

The deputy chief medical officer said the situation remained "precarious" after another 57 deaths were notified to health authorities in Dublin and another 650 infections were detected on Wednesday."Almost 90% of cases in Ireland are the B117 variant."Dr Glynn added: "The increased transmissibility of this variant is apparent in the current profile of the disease in households, with one in three household contacts of a confirmed case testing positive for Covid-19.

"This underlines the need for people to exercise caution in households and other settings. In particular, people should isolate immediately on experiencing any symptoms and contact their GP."
