J P McManus' retained jockey, Mark Walsh, has chosen the Gavin Cromwell-trained mare Limerick Lace as his ride for the Randox Grand National, surprising many by not picking the top favorites.

Two-time Randox Grand National -winning owner J P McManus has sorted his riders for the world -famous race. Mark Walsh had the choice of five horses among the 34-runner field for the £1 million contest and was expected to go with one of the Willie Mullins -trained runners.

But Walsh has instead gone for the Gavin Cromwell-trained mare Limerick Lace, winner of the Mares’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Confirming riding arrangements, McManus’s racing manager Frank Berry said: “Paul is on I Am Maximus, Mark is on Limerick Lace and Danny is on Meetingofthewaters.
