An Irishwoman living in Northern Italy has described the reality of the outbreak near her home as "surreal".Marie Murphy, 46, lives and works just outside Milan, not far from areas that have seen people die from the Covid-19 virus following the initial outbreak.
Marie told CorkBeo: "I am working in Milan, however my company in line with many companies in Milan have advised us to work from home for at least the next week, also all the schools are closed in Milan and the surrounding areas for the next week, so all the kids are at home. "So not a lot to do at the moment. This is up until Sunday, then we will find out if everyone can go back to school and the office or we need to ‘lay low’ for another week.
All sporting activities for the kids, Eleonora, 14, and Alessandro Cavagnera, 14, have been cancelled for the time being. She added: "I am based in a village called Concorezzo. There are cases close to here too. As of today in northern Italy we are at 322 affected people and 11 dead. Please keep in mind the 11 that passed away were already sick and did not die as a direct cause but already were in a very weak state due to other illnesses.
