Dublin man in Milan, Italy puts family into 'voluntary quarantine' over coronavirus fears

An Irishman says he and his family put themselves into a voluntary quarantine in their Italian home before the Government introduced a coronavirus lockdown in parts of the country.

“So for the weekly shop in the local supermarket we thought let’s fill it up a bit more, so we got extra rice and pasta, the non-perishables.” Their motivation was to keep their children, aged three and four well, and he said: "The worst thing you can do is think everything is okay when it is not.“We know there is a 2-14 day incubation period so what we are going to do is sit it out for a minimum of 14 days if we have to, until the Government lift the ban.”

Dept clarifies advice after coronavirus deaths in ItalyThe Department of Foreign Affairs has clarified that there is no change to its overall travel advice for Italy. 12 Italian towns are in lockdown over Coronavirus. It is madness to advise Irish citizens to travel to Italy as normal, and then infect Ireland on their return. Any travel to countries east of Ireland is going to be risky at this stage. Not a good time for holidays or business trips. Utter stupidity. “It’s fine to travel to locked down virus infected cities... have a blast”
