Irish households will need to spend between €25bn and €75bn over the next 30 years to retrofit their homes, according to the National Expert Advisory Council on Climate Change

Speaking at the Joint Committee on Climate Action, Professor John FitzGerald said the construction and building sector is operating near full capacity.

He said this would provide certainty to construction firms for long term commitments to retrofitting. Mr FitzGerald said there are a lot of people willing to pay to retrofit their homes but they do not know how to do it.

We are still waiting to hear about our application in April. Said there's a 9 month waiting list just to have some assess if we can have anything done, never mind how long it'll take to get it done

stoneyfordhill Real back of envelope stuff. 1.6 million homes need refurbishment. Average cost of 30k include new heating and tidy up. (30,000 X 1,600,000 = 48 billion). Includes 9.6 billion vat..

DeirdreNiF Another tax!

It isn’t going to happen without big EU grants, most people don’t have the money

Need to start doing lotto

Where does the Government think we the Taxpayers are going to get the money from? Were squeezed enough thanks to the Bankers, Builders and an incompetent Government who left us with a hefty bill.

Plenty of material for Room To Improve...

The constant climate alarmism is disgusting. Scaring people into taxing themselves to death in fear of they’ll die in 12 years if they don’t do this. Talk about a cult.

I don't think the credit union is gonna lend me 25 billion tbh

The houses should never have been built with no installation and cavity blocks...Not until 2008 did proper building installation standards come in....

How much per house?

What a super economic injection. Reduce imports of energy and growth in retrofitting industry. Needs policing and standards.

Each?

And yet all gov could fund training and retro fitting
