Carol Murphy Haslam, who lost half of her arm to an aggressive sarcoma cancer – a rare soft tissue and bone cancer – is begging Simon Harris to employ a consultant as he promised to do over two years ago.And the brave woman has appealed directly to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar too, calling on him to “get somebody who can save our lives.”
Sarcomas affects about 250 people a year in Ireland, so it does not get the same attention as other cancers that affect far more victims. “I have no problem whatsoever with the doctor treating me, I’m very well looked after and thankfully cancer-free right now. Simon Harris told the Irish Mirror: “St Vincent’s University Hospital advised my Department on September 25th that the person recruited to fill a permanent post of Consultant Medical Oncologist with a special interest in sarcoma will not be taking up the post.
A spokesman for St Vincent’s said: “A specialist who had been appointed for a new post in St. Vincent’s University Hospital commencing in September 2019 has declined to take up the role for personal reasons. How to follow the Irish Mirror on social media You can like our main Facebook page here.
