For as long as Claire Bermingham can remember, she wanted to be an actress. “When I was little, I watched those old Hollywood films on the television in the sitting room. I just assumed I would be one of those ladies in the film,” she laughs.
The actress is probably most recognisable to Irish audiences for appearing opposite Jane Seymour in a lead guest role in the drama Harry Wild, which also starred Amy Huberman. However, Claire says the world of acting isn’t always glamorous, it’s a lot of hard work and graft. She began writing and producing her own films, which she says was crucial to her self-worth and happiness. “I spent eight years full-time in LA. Once I started writing and producing, I started to feel like I had some control over one area of my career. No matter how talented or beautiful you are, that doesn’t always coincide with who is going to get the part. When you create your own projects, you create the story.
The plot focuses on estranged sisters Jess and Maddie who, while mourning the death of their father, discover the local legend of the Caoránach, a serpent monster said to menace the surrounding waters. “I really fought to get this film made so it’s amazing to see it being so well received at the festivals already,” adds Claire.
Reality Being an actress in LA isn’t always glamorous and cool like the movies, though. In fact, it’s more like a grind, according to Claire.
