Ireland 'at risk of losing control of tracing source of virus infections'

The country is at risk of losing control of tracing the source of Covid-19 infections, the Government has warned.

Ms Canavan said although State and health officials knew that there would be some increases in Covid cases once the country began to reopen, it has now “shifted away from the trajectory”.“As the number of clusters increases there’s a much increased chance that the disease will begin to seed more generally in the community again.“Community transmission means you don’t know where disease is coming from and we cannot track down the source of infection.

Ms Canavan reminded people to follow all public health guidelines to curb the spread, and to limit social interactions. The current spend for the TWSS is €2.4 billion and on Thursday €28.8 million was paid out under the scheme.
