Coronavirus Ireland county cases: Four areas see bigger spike than Dublin as virus starts to spread

The capital has been the epicentre of the outbreak here since the pandemic began, accounting for nearly half of all cases in Ireland.

However there are now signs that the killer bug is starting to spread across the country, as a number of smaller counties saw a bigger spike in new cases in the latest statistics. Kildare saw the biggest increase in infections, with 15 new Covid-19 cases reported in the most recent data released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

Clare and Laois saw eight new cases each over the last 24 hours, while Offaly saw five more infections.The latest figures cover the period up to midnight on Sunday, August 2. It comes after 45 more coronavirus cases were announced in Ireland last night, with no further deaths.The death toll now stands at 1,763.
