Injuries rule Fahey and Payne out of Ireland’s double-header against Sweden

Payne’s reappearance on Everton’s bench last Saturday, having missed their three previous games, was an encouraging sign, but she didn’t feature in the game and is still struggling with the Achilles problem she picked up against England.has been included in the squad but remains a doubt after hobbling out of North Carolina Courage’s game against Kansas City Current on May 12th, a heavy challenge leaving her with a knee injury.

McCabe’s Arsenal team-mate Stina Blackstenius misses that trip – and both games against Ireland – due to a hip injury, but manager Peter Gerhardsson has still been able to call on a wealth of experience, his squad including six players who have just won league titles in England, Germany and Spain with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.. The Swedes started theirs with a bang by drawing 1-1 with England at Wembley, but they then lost 1-0 at home to France.
