Today, a student on €12,000 walks us through his week of trying to balance work in Cork and college life in Dublin.Monthly expenses Rent: €850 Groceries: €150Monday 7:00am: I get up to go for a run and then shower and have breakfast.11:00am: I have a tea break for 20 minutes before heading back to class. I buy tea for €2.50.
7:30pm: I get back to my apartment and cook dinner. I tidy up a bit and watch some Netflix before bed.1:00pm: I go to Spar for lunch and spend €5.50 on a chicken wrap and a bottle of Vit-Hit before going back to lectures at 2pm.

Opinion: Many students will be locked out of third-level if costs and supports don't start to balanceSkyrocketing rents, college fees, slashed grants - why this student wants Budget2020 to take the plight of third-level students into account The budget will do nothing. The only way to fix things is a populist revolution. FG considers infrastructure investment as planning for the future when our youth [students] are really our future. They are the people that will ultimately deliver the answers to all our problems. FG are failing now and are doing their best to fail us for the future. Most students have to work to pay high rents or commute long distances. There is an increase in stress and mental health issues. Facts that are ignored by the government and the Colleges.
