The sale of other solid fuels like unseasoned wood or wet wood could also be banned, Ryan said today. “Our goal over the lifetime of this government is to provide support to retrofit many of these homes, but in the meantime we want to ensure they can be heated in a way that improves public health.” “Smokey coals yes but will not support Eamon Ryan’s call in consultation document to do so. Country will move to alternatives when households afforded opportunities/incentives/grants,” Cowen tweeted.

Presumably in tandem with nationwide roll out of comprehensive grant scheme to facilitate installation of greener energy heating solutions?

Banning the sale of smoky coal in towns was always ridiculous when the coal-merchants were located outside of town! This move is welcome.

Generally when Fianna Fail went into coalition it was the weaker party suffered at the end. This time FF will be decimated. The greens have been given carte blanche to run riot. There isn't an area they haven't got a leg in. FF TD's are now Green sheep
