Gardaí have issued a fresh warning for the Bank Holiday weekend after arresting a motorist for drink-driving.

Almost 4 out of 5 * fatalities to date this year have occurred on rural roads. These are roads with a speed limit of 80km/h or above. The Donegal Town Roads Policing Unit conducted a number of MIT checkpoints in the area of Donegal Town and Pettigo. A Garda spokesperson warned: "This Bank Holiday Weekend and always, please drive safely and make wise decisions when it comes to road safety. Making a decision to drive whilst under the influence of alcohol/drugs can have devastating consequences. Excess speed can and does kill so please slow down!
