Mykola Dernovi (46) died at property in Clones on Saturday night, detectives suspect he had been assaulted

Gardaí are keen to speak to a man who they believe may have information regarding the circumstances surrounding the death in Monaghan of Mykola Dernovi. Photograph: Niall Carson/PAat the weekend was assaulted by somebody known to him. Detectives investigating the death of the man, who was from Ukraine, are keen to speak to another man who they believe may have vital information.

The final results of a postmortem examination were awaited on Monday night to determine if Mr Dermovi died from his injuries or if he suffered a medical episode that brought about his death. Gardaí sealed off the scene and began contacting other people living in the building and in nearby properties to determine whether they had seen or heard anything around the time Mr Dermovi died, at about 10pm on Saturday.

Sources stressed that while gardaí wanted to speak with that man, as they believe he was in the company of Mr Dernovi on Saturday, the investigation into the victim’s death was still in its early stages. They added it would take some time to determine how the Ukrainian man died and who was responsible.
