Brave Garda loses foot in hit-and-run crash horror as colleague 'helped save life'

Detectives are quizzing a woman after a senior Garda was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in which he lost his foot.

Inspt Flood was off duty and cycling on the R522 between Dromcolliher and Feohanagh near Newcastle West in Limerick when he was hit at around 7.15pm on Thursday evening.The driver of a Volkswagen Passat fled the scene, leaving the victim on the roadside. The Irish Mirror can also reveal that the suspect’s partner raised the alarm after she had arrived home.A Garda spokesman said: “She is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Henry Street Garda Station.The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision investigators. Sources said Inspt Flood is a well-respected member of the force who previously served at sergeant rank in Newcastle West.
