The GAA will use “rapid testing” to help keep the Championship on course should there be Covid-19 outbreaks in county panels.
He said: “There have been very few instances where an entire team, in fact there have been none, where an entire team has been ruled out . “Now, it would be hugely different to what is in professional sports but it might be something that helps us to ensure both the health of the players and that the game can go ahead. It's currently at a tender stage so I can't really comment much more but I would emphasise again it would be a very limited approach.
Meanwhile, although there are still some outstanding issues with regard to the Championship venues, particularly in Leinster, McGill said that he couldn’t imagine the latter stages of the Championships not being played at Croke Park, despite the high case numbers in the capital. “The only way you would imagine that happening is if Dublin was in Level 5 lockdown. And I think NPHET and everyone else would agree that’s a hell of a distance off just now. But I think that would be the only circumstances.”
“It’s under active consideration, the idea of regionalising it a bit better. However that’s not as simple as you might think when you actually sit down to do it. But we’ll look at that.
