A multi-point tolling system could see cars charged based on the length of a road used, and would apply to motorways across the country, including the M50 in Dublin.

Such a system would see cars tolled based on the length of a road used, and would apply to motorways across the country, including the M50 in Dublin.

As reported by The Business Post, the work has been called"Project Bruce" or"Better Road User Charging Evaluation". The options are being examined to help with the country meet climate objectives and improve revenue generation as the road network returns to public ownership. These efforts are understood to be at an early stage, with most Public Private Partnership agreements running until 2030 and one due to remain in place until 2052.

It comes a number of days after the Cabinet agreed to defer an increase in toll charges until July at a cost to the taxpayer of €12.5 million.

So obviously road tax will be scrapped

It boggles the mind as to why the state cannot borrow the money to build a motorway, place toll-charge on road, when loan is full paid reduce toll charge to a modest amount and then use that money to build more motorways. Somehow I think politicians have their finger in the pie.

State propaganda, let’s get one thing clear the people already paid for these roads with their taxes and any new slimly schemes will meet with such swift force you will think a Russian guided missile has landed on Leinster House Dublin Galway Belfast Cork Ireland Irish Gaa

YOU CAN SEE ME ON THIS!!!!!!!

Irish WEF Government to Reduce population by 50% by end of 2023. Using vaccinations, starvation & cold winters as main tactic. See WEF video where Micheál Leo and Eamonn Ryan attended and applauded.

Just another way for the punitive Irish tax regime to tax its Citizens -- What exactly do the Irish get for the rediculous taxes they pay

Transport Infrastructure Ireland should invest in railways across the country.

Like Spain has been doing for years?

That’s racist! Only joking

Sussing out peoples thoughts, why don’t we all not just pay tolls, we pay enough tax

The M50 makes billions this is simply more of the government taxing motorists off the road.

Dubs paying for everything again.

More tax on motorists

This means every road off the M50 will become rat runs, terrible for cyclists, pedestrians. In the same way as EamonRyan supported diesel cars, polluting CFL lighting and Dublin incinerator he will LOVE this! Right, greenparty_ie? /1

Every country singing from the same UN/WEF Net Zero Agenda!

Would they ever f.o. We’ve already paid for the sodding M50, all it will do is force cars off it and back through the burbs. The TDs that bring that in is going to lose a lot of votes around Dublin.

Tax on my car is for the roads, toll bridges are for foreign investors to make fortunes to the detriment of the Irish backed by government

Everyone would start cutting through the city than using m50

Bildeston a flyover all through m50.. toll that then...

We pay road tax already! The roads are also built on out tax money! How many times do we have to pay?!

Last week they wanted to increase the tolls but backed down ..now they are back to this idea again penalising people who may have to drive to get to work. Absolutely no help here for the motorist. Green Party running the show with nobody speaking out. Sad but true. BobFlavin

Leo blaming d traffic for not getting back to the husband

So, what's road tax then ?

Kite-flying exercise? If this were the come through, this will likely force vehicles back into bottleneck towns again. Any funds collected will have to be ring-fenced for road infrastructure. Unlike road tax which isn't...

Ah great. Another way for the government to shaft the public.

if this happens.....road tax and VRT should be abolished for business vehicles. I have no choice but to be on the Motorway System, day in - day out. This will cost jobs.

Would avoid m50 easily if there is a toll for short journeys ...

cool, this makes mass transit and active travel even more attractive

Better call a citizens assembly fast!

Not only we pay road tax, now we would have to pay just for driving? We should just left the cars in the middle of the street

Anything to make more profit.

Stupid idea.

I remember a time when road tolls were said to be temporary so as to pay back the cost of building the bridge. Now of course, another mechanism of taxation

Road tolls should be abolished

What's Road tax for?

TII will make more money charging time spent on the motorway...

Any chance we could travel in our own country without having to pay for it?

Good god 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Every town in ireland is gonna end up jammed with traffic if these clowns keep going...

Mass car tax boycott in protest over this

multi point gouging

But it will save the planet

321. Trip Galway to Dublin 50€

Would it not make more sense 🙂 for the poor fuckers in this country to just a direct debit mandate to government and help yourself with our wages I mean were been screwed anyhow 😂 let's streamline the process

Government just trying to get more money from anything. This is going to be like the movie Time, where you pay with your lifetime

So now I'm gonna get charged for driving? Not enough on high petrol prices and road tax?

PRICE GOUGING

😬

This is going to be very unpopular. Pure gouging.

Greed creeping in by the NGO's for the Irish Government. Who's idea is this ? The government take the pi*s...

Not very fair on those forced to travel from all across the country to Dublin hospitals because the health service is so piss poor everywhere else. Government solution, charge them even more.

More carbon TAX

Rehashing old policy suggestions to keep the little people preoccupied. Leo suggested this when he was Minister of Transport too.

Depends on the charges in fairness applied if hop on and off next junction should only be 50 cents

If I’m paying for tolls what’s the motor tax for?

In fairness this is what the country needs. More tolls. Wonderful.

🖕🏼

This story smells so much of Eamon Ryan with his band of Green merry tax men to put the car out of reach of the ordinary car user.

March on the tolls shut them down hit them where it hurts their pissing on us we have to stop this government anti Irish policies

🖕

Won't be going on the toll roads then. Simples.

Another gouge.

I’m from Kerry. Discrimination much.

Only been talking about this for 9+ years

They don't want you driving

A fairer system needed, currently those travelling south bound from Finglas to access the M4 or M7 get hit with a toll while those travelling north bound from Tallaght don't.

Another way to take what money we have left 😡

Grand. More remote working a massive decentralisation from Dublin. I wish.

My only issue with this especially if people are called back to offices more and with inadequate public transport is that those who can’t afford Dublin will suffer more

Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, all designed to make you travel less by car! Wake up people!

The only country in Europe to charge high road tax, stupid amount of tolls, NCT and corruption by FF and FG imagine my shock. But RTÈ won’t point any of that out because they’re riddled with corruption too.

Pucker up... Will they also supply the lube?

Tesla drivers will be exempt…

Do this in France but national roads are much better there. 30€ it cost to travel 330 km.

This is Green party policy...Electric cars will be exempt....Part of plan to meet our carbon budget....Supported by all the other political parties....

Fuc 😡
